Numeracy

In Prep/1 teachers link numeracy to everyday activities using strategies introduced by Rob Vingerhoets, developing all children’s problem solving and metal computation strategies. There is a strong emphasis on the development of basic number skills and space and measurement.

In grade 2 teachers link numeracy to everyday activities using strategies introduced by Michael Ymer and Rob Vingerhoets. There is a strong emphasis on the development of basic number skills.

Grade 3/4 students work in like-mind ability groups in Numeracy that allow them to work at their own level.  They have a whole group numeracy focus before working in small groups.  They spend at least 5 hours on numeracy each week which incorporates all areas of VELS.

Grade 5 & 6 students use an open ended, problem solving approach to real life mathematics and the 4 processes.
